disease, threats and violence

This is merely a sampling of the violence reported last year.

police violence

I did not have enough beads to record incidents of police violence. According to the Mapping Police Violence database,

  • there were only six days in 2025 when police did not kill someone in the United States
  • U.S. police killed 1,383 people in 2025
  • Black people are 2.83 times more likely to be killed by police than white people
  • Police killings in the U.S. from 2013-2024:
    • 140 Hawaiian and Pacific Islanders per million
    • 97 Black people per million
    • 61 American Indian and Alaskan Native per million
    • 45 Hispanic per million
    • 35 white people per million
    • 12 Asians per million

measles

In 2025 there were 2,200 cases of measles, the most in decades. This includes the outbreaks that began in Texas and South Carolina.
